Autograph Book
of Fanny Catherine Fitch
A book of "Autographs," collected by Fanny Catherine Fitch, No. 5290. In 1861, Fanny graduated from Lake Erie Female Seminary in Painesville, Ohio, founded two years earlier as a "daughter college" of Mount Holyoke. The course of study included a variety of mathematics and science courses, as well as courses in history, English, philosphy, Latin, and religion. In 1898 the name changed to Lake Erie College and Seminary and has since become a college.
The photograph on the right shows a page from the book, drawn presumably by a faculty member. The banner held in the bird's beak reads, "Remember Me Fanny / John H. Powers." The artist has also added his signature with a flourish beneath the drawing.
